6 Foods for Beautiful Skin

Beautiful skin is created from the inside out.

Did you know that your skin is your largest organ?

Not only is it affected by what you put on it, but what you eat plays an important role in beautiful skin.

Beautiful skin is a sign of overall health:

    • If you body is lacking nutrients, things like skin and hair are the first to suffer as your body will prioritize your essential organs and systems.
    • Common skin conditions such as dry skin, eczema, dermatitis, acne, rosacea, dandruff, and psoriasis are all aggravated by a poor diet.

    • Some of these conditions can be caused by a food allergy or sensitivity to things like dairy or gluten.
    • Others are the result of chronic inflammation caused by sugar, refined flour, refined oils, and processed foods.
    • If your body is full of toxins, one of the ways it will try to secrete them is through your skin.
    • In all cases, changing your diet is a great first step in you effort to resolve the issue and achieve beautiful skin.
    • Medications and prescription strength creams often just cover up the symptoms without addressing the cause of the problem.
Beautiful Skin Can Be Achieved!

Beautiful Skin Can Be Achieved!

Here are some foods you can eat regularly to keep your beautiful skin:

Apple cider vinegar:

1. Apple cider vinegar (ACV)  is made from pressing and fermenting raw apples and is wonderful for beautiful skin. It works internally and externally!

  • It is an inexpensive natural remedy for many ailments. Diluted with water and applied topically it can help alleviate sun burns, bug bite itching, kill yeast and fungus on the skin or nails, be used as a facial toner that won’t dry out your skin, and can be used to alleviate dandruff and itchy scalp.
  • When consumed, ACV produces an alkaline body environment, which is essential to good health and beautiful skin.
  • Try adding it to your water and drinking it regularly. Make sure your ACV is raw and unfiltered. You will see the fiber floating around in a cloudy substance at the bottom of the bottle. Refined, distilled apple cider vinegar has had all of the health promoting qualities removed and will not provide the same benefits.

Leafy greens:

2. Leafy greens such as spinach, kale, chard, and collard greens are rich in Vitamin A, which is essential for beautiful skin.

  • Vitamin A is used to prevent cell damage and premature aging.
  • These greens also help support your liver, which is the main organ responsible for the natural detoxification process.
  • A body full of toxins will often result in skin problems.

Vitamin C:

3. Eat foods rich in Vitamin C such as strawberries, blueberries, oranges, and grapefruit for beautiful skin.

  • Vitamin C is important in the production of collagen, a main component of connective tissue and skin cells.
  • They are also full of antioxidants, which protect your body from free radicals.
  • Free radicals are responsible for premature aging and contribute to cancer cell growth.

Organic coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil:

4. Organic coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil are also great for skin internally and externally.

  • They can be used in place of lotions and lip balms to hydrate the skin, prevent stretch marks, and reduce signs of aging.
  • They do this by strengthening connective tissue as they penetrate deep into your skin.
  • When consumed, these healthy fats provide your body with the means to absorb fat soluble Vitamin A.

Carotenoids:

5. Vegetables rich in carotenoids are easy to spot as they are red, orange, and yellow in color.

  • Examples include carrots, bell peppers, tomatoes and sweet potatoes.
  • Carotenoids are integral to our immune systems and cannot be produced by the body; therefore we must get them through our food.
  • Our skin stores caroteniods which give it a “healthy glow.”
  • These vegetables are also rich in beta-carotene, which your body converts into Vitamin A.

Omega 3 fats:

6. Omega 3 fats help prevent dehydration of cells and to keep cell membranes strong, which is important in decreasing the appearance of fine lines.

  • Dry skin is often an indicator that your diet is deficient in Omega 3 fats.
  • Omega 3 oils also reduce inflammation, which is an underlying factor in many skin conditions.
  • A high quality fish oil supplement is recommended.
  • Most fish is contaminated with heavy metals and other pollutants, and fish that isn’t can be very expensive and difficult to eat regularly.

Symptoms are messengers that something is wrong. We can attempt to silence them, or we can listen to them.

If you suffer from a skin condition, use it as an opportunity to discover what your body needs that it isn’t getting.  Ask yourself what you are putting into your body that it does not want.

Rather than purchasing another cream or product that promises to cure your aliment, go back to the basic building blocks of beautiful skin;the food you eat.
