5 Reasons to Start Drinking Green Smoothies Daily

1. Drinking “green” smoothies is the easiest way to meet your daily vegetable quota:

It can be difficult to eat the recommended amount of vegetables (2 cups of leafy greens and 2 cups of rainbow vegetables) every day. Blending up your greens along with other vegetables and some fruit is a great way to get those vegetables.

 2. Green smoothies are:

rich in chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, enzymes, and disease fighting phytonutrients!

Greens such as spinach, kale, mustard greens, collard greens, and chard are all great choices for your smoothies. It is best to switch up which greens you are using and to not always use the same ones. Make sure your greens are organic, since non-organic greens are heavily sprayed in pesticides.

3. Green smoothies are:

easy to make!

Just add liquid such as water or almond milk, greens, chopped veggies, and anything else you want such as a little fruit to sweeten it, chia seeds, flax seeds, coconut butter, quality protein powder, organic veggie and sprout powder, etc.

Add a few ice cubes (skip ice if the fruit is frozen) and blend in a good quality blender or Vitamix. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!

4. Green smoothies are:

delicious!

For yourself or those in your family who dislike eating vegetables, green smoothies are a great way to make vegetable eating (or in this case, drinking!) delicious. It is also a great way to encourage children to get their veggies in.

While adding fruit makes the smoothies taste great, it is best to use as little fruit as possible. Smoothies that are mostly fruit will spike your insulin levels and eventually contribute to weight gain, insulin resistance, and diabetes. Use a small amount of fruit or use citrus fruit such as lemon and lime which have almost no sugar. Also try making one or two smoothies a week that are vegetable only until you get used to them.

Green Monster Recipe

If you are new to green smoothies, a great recipe to get you started is the “Green Monster” smoothie. (1) Even the biggest skeptics in your family will be asking you to make this one again and again!

2 Cups Organic Greens
1-1.5 Cups of your choice of milk such as unsweetened almond milk, unsweetened coconut milk, organic whole cow’s milk, etc. Soy milk is not recommended. (2)
1 Tablespoon Flax
1 Banana
Ice
(Optional: ½ cup of blueberries.)
Blend until smooth and enjoy!

Delicious Detox Smoothie

This recipe sounds odd but the flavor combination of the pineapple and the parsley is delicious! Parsley is a very effective detoxifier.
2 cups of Organic Greens
20 oz can of Pineapple, undrained (or drain and add water to reduce sugar content)
1 large Carrot
½ Organic Cucumber (peel if not organic)
Fistful of Parsley
Ice
Blend until smooth and enjoy!

Lemon Green Smoothie

This smoothie is extremely nutritious and incredibly alkalizing!

The lemon is great because it masks most of the “vegetable” taste and it doesn’t contain any sugar like other fruit.

If your blender is powerful enough, you can just cut the lemon in half and throw it in, seeds and all. There are lots of nutrients in the peel!
2 cups Filtered Water
2 cups Organic Greens
1 large Carrot
½ Organic Cucumber (peel if not organic)
1 Stick of Celery
1 Lemon (with peel if possible)
Ice
Optional: One scoop of Perfect Food Raw—Green Super Food (3)
Blend until smooth and enjoy!
